Exploring the Depths of Lake Como

Lake Como

On July 6th, 2022, I found myself in Cernobbio, a lesser-known town nestled on the shores of Lake Como. This charming town offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling tourist hub of Como. Locals often prefer Cernobbio for its serene atmosphere and easy access to the lake. From here, you can take a boat to either Como or Torno, another hidden gem that's less frequented by tourists.

Lago di Como he third-largest lake in Italy, is renowned for its stunning scenery and unique "Y" shape. With a depth of over 400 meters (1,300 feet), it is one of the deepest lakes in Europe, reaching 227 meters (745 feet) below sea level. The lake's picturesque landscape has inspired artists and filmmakers for years, making it a popular backdrop for movies such as "Ocean's Twelve," "Casino Royale," and "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones."

If you're looking for a quieter destination, head to the commune of Torno like we did. This quaint town offers a more relaxed pace, with its narrow cobblestone streets, historic churches, and beautiful lakeside views. It's the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway, away from the crowds.

Lake Como's shores are lined with artistic and cultural treasures. Many luxurious villas and palaces are open to the public, offering a glimpse into the region's opulent past. The lush gardens and grand interiors of these estates are a testament to the area's rich history and allure.
